Figured you all might like to see what I have been screwing around with for the last week or two. A couple of years ago I built a 3d model of SDF-1, but then I put it in storage and never did anything with it. A few weeks ago, I started playing around with it for some reason, looking to see how well it would animate. After completing the initial fold into Earth's orbit, I added the POV re-entry sequence, then I realized I was onto something.

So if I were to do the Robotech movie, it would open with something like this. If you cant tell, I was slightly inspired by the intro to the Metal Hurlant Chronicles tv series.

I added a navigation shield/bubble to the SDF-1 to help alter its course, because something 3/4 of a mile long doesnt turn on a dime.

I will probably add to it eventually by including the re-entry and the crash landing on Macross Island. I dont know.

SDF-1, the Moon and the Earth all built and rendered in Maya. All effects done in After Effects. Edited in Premiere.

The music is a song called Mataleon by Roberto Feltracco.

I do not own the rights to any of this, including the music. I am nothing but a lifelong fan screwing around in his free time.

That looks really good. How did you make the earth?

Everything (minus the fold, nav shield, sun, and engine fx) was built and rendered in Maya.
