The Japanese ones have been reissued, I think... The funny thing is that the 1/8000 SDF-1 ("Storm Attacker Construction") by Imai was a much, MUCH better kit than the 1/5000 version (by Arii, and reissued by Revell). Hell, the "elbows" didn't even bend on the Arii kit...

Revell Robotech Space Fortress SDF-1 Model Kit
The model builds up into a spacecraft that measures 9 & ½ inches in length. (The kit is listed as a 1/5000 scale of the actual SDF-1). This kit is out of production.

RTSURFER
Actually, Revell's "Robotech Defender" kits predated the tv series by about a year. IINM, the only deal between HG and Revell was for the name "Robotech", and to limit the RD comic to only two issues although that may have had more to do with it not making money more than any deal. I was under the impression Revell discontinued the RD line once their on hands were sold out.
AH. NICE TO KNOW. AND YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE LINE. I DON'T THINK I EVER SAW THE KITS AFTERWARDS.
Sometime after Robotech showed up on US TV (summer of '85? Maybe?) I do remember seeing a Revell Robotech kit of the SDF-1 (a repackage of the Arii 1/5000 kit). So I think they capitalized a little bit on the show...but yeah, not much.

The also released some of the 1/144 Macross kits, and generally packaged two to a box...but I can't remember if those came out before or after the show aired.

I never read the original comic release of prelude, but I got my trade paperback copy of prelude a couple of weeks ago, and it made me want to punch babies until they turn into skittles. ANGRY skittles.

Why does Edwards have a giant butt for a chin? It's like the assface episode of Southpark... And the red eyepiece? Really, why didn't they give him a giant black top hat, a waxed handlebar mustache, and call him Snidely Whiplash?

Why didn't anyone lock the Waltrips in a dungeon for insanely gratuitous overuse of VZUUU! and other action-noise bits? It was obnoxious - it got to the point where all I heard was a 5 year old kid running around the house going "PEW PEW PEW PEW PEW!" - totally ruined the enjoyment of the artwork for me (which was the one thing I *did* like).

ACTUALLY THE COMICS BEFORE THE MOVIE RELEASE WAS AS BAD. IT WAS RUSHED TO FALL IN A DATE BEFORE SHADOW CHRONICLES RELEASE.

THIS SECOND TIME AROUND IT WAS FIXED AND THE COLORS WERE ALSO FIXED FROM IT'S ORIGINAL FORM.

AT LEAST THE SECOND ATTEMPT WAS BETTER. WHICH I AM HOPING THE SAME WILL HAPPEN WITH THE CONTINUING RISING STORY.

Toynami isn't like say Hasbro, they put out a very limited line of overpriced Robotech toys (and their OSM counterparts) one at a time (or in mini-sets) with some trinkets thrown into the schedule from time to time.
REASON WHEN I ASKED THEM AT COMIC CON WAS THE MARKET DEMAND IS VERY SLOW RIGHT NOW. THERE THE COLLECTORS OUT THERE BUT NOT ENOUGH TO PROCESS A BATCH. SO THEY BEING CAREFULL.

As for my claim that Tommy micromanages their licensees, just look to Palladium's current Robotech RPG line.
STORY DEVELOPMENT AND TOY MAKING ARE TWO DIFFERENT ANIMALS.

@ SAVE, KUDOS WITH WHAT RTSURFER SAID.

AND I HAVE NOT BOUGHT THEM EITHER. NEW THINGS ALWAYS COME UP.

Please, boobies in anime is standard fare ... since RTSC is a pseudo-anime, thus T&A are required.

Its just that .. well, T&A in anime should come with associated jiggling & bouncing ... RTSC FAILED BIGTIME in that department.

As I said in another thread, the fan service in RTSC was poorly executed fan service.
I agree, if the women of Robotech are going to have big boobs there should be some jiggle and bounce.

Thank you, save. Very interesting info, I didn't realize Toynami had two versions of the cyclone/ride armor with different price points available. I looked the Toynami/Megahouse versions up, they actually look pretty good even with the complaints about transformation.

I'd be interested in knowing as well if this is actually going to get done, but in anycase, I wouldn't buy from that guy. The price is too high (MSRP $149.99) and there are other sites and group buys I've found where you can buy these brand new for less than that.

Does anyone know what the current status is for Toynami's 2008 deal to distribute the Bandai VF-1's? Other than being pushed back a year, which would have been 2009 (a year ago).

The current status is that deal never went through on the Bandai VF-1's. This is not speculation I was told personally. Bandai / Tamashii was going to manufacture the Veritech Ver. for Toynami as an OEM type product. These versions would be missing the Bandai branding on the plastic parts, so Toynami could distribute them overseas. For those wondering the project was not stopped by BW it was someone at Bandai's corporate office that stopped it for their own reasons.

Bandai was working with Toynami on distributing some of their products but Bandai eventually broke that off as well and is now working with another distributor in the US.

However Megahouse is a division of Bandai and RT.com is still currently selling the Megahouse Mospeada Ride Armors with Toynami distribution stickers so the two companies probably still have unfinished business between them.

True, Toynami has the exclusive license for Roboetch toys in the US so they do make the distribution deals, but does anyone really believe that HG has no say over what they release or don't release? Tommy has a reputation for micromanaging the licensees so I can't see him and/or other reps from HG not being involved in those deals to some extent. That's part of the reason why I referred to them as "Toynami/HG" above. The other reason is that HG was making the distribution deals or lack thereof before Toynami was created.

As I mentioned above, Toynami was reportedly created because HG blocked their own deal with Toycom (IINM aka Yamato USA). When that deal fell through, George Sohn previously of Toycom, started Toynami to manufacture and distribute Robotech toys for HG. Otherwise, in theory HG (or if you prefer their domestic distributor) would be selling imported toys based on deals with Japanese distributors and manufacturers wouldn't they? Isn't that what we were talking about, imported toys?
BE INVOLVED IN THE DEALS? ABSOLUTELY. MICROMANAGING? DON'T THINK SO. OR ELSE HG WOULD HAVE EVERY TOY OUT THERE THAT EVERY FAN WANTS. THERE IS A LIMIT TO THIS MICROMANAGING BELIEF. HG CAN TRY TO PERSUADE WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHICH TOMMY HAS SAID IN THE VIDEOS WHEN THEY TALK TO GEORGE SOHN BUT IT'S STILL IN GEORGE'S HAND.
You mean like Robotech Master/Southern Cross toys, right? ;) :-D

AND YES, ABOUT GEORGE STARTING TOYNAMI AND NOW WORKING WITH "SOME" OF THESE JAPANESE TOY COMPANIES. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE WE MIGHT SEE SOMETHING DOWN THE LINE IN FUTURE DEALS. MORE LEGAL IMPORTS THE BETTER. NOW IF THEY CAN ONLY GET THE MACROSS YAMATO LINE AS WELL.
Based on their history I seriously doubt it, but who knows?
FORGOT TO ADD THE DEAL THEY MADE WITH REVELL WHICH ALSO HAD MACROSS JAPAN MODEL KITS FOR THE NAME "ROBOTECH". NOT SURE WHAT THEY HAD IN LINE BEFORE THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HG AND REVELL.
Actually, Revell's "Robotech Defender" kits predated the tv series by about a year. Does anyone else know if Toynami put their logo on the Revoltech imports they are distributing/reselling?
