Slowly but surely new developments related to the Robotech Live Action Movie are surfacing much to our enjoyment. This time it has to do with toys! We all like toys and what could be better than ROBOTECH toys. Thanks to ShadowVTForce on the Official ROBOTECH forums for posting a heads-up on the subject.

The blurb comes from http://www.playthings.com/article/CA6569991.html where the article talks about the 28th annual Licensing International Expo.

“Long-term, live-action Robotech, Johnny Quest, World of Warcraft, He-Man and Justice League films are also on the agenda for licensing, as well as the CGI Thundercats and a third Batman film from Chris Nolan, Gilmore says.”

The Hollywood Reporter Confirms Kasdan Print
Written by David Pena
Wednesday, 18 June 2008 14:36

According to the Hollywood reporter, Lawrence Kasdan is confirmed as the screenwriter for the Robotech Live Action Movie.

Veteran screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan has been hired to write "Robotech," Warner Bros.' adaptation of the anime classic.

Additionally, Akiva Goldsman and Chuck Roven are boarding the project as producers, joining Tobey Maguire and Drew Crevello.

"Robotech" was a 1980s cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Prods. It was re-edited and re-dialogued to combine three Japanese anime series to give the producers enough episodes to air as a daily syndicated series.

A sprawling sci-fi epic, "Robotech" takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion centers on a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship's energy source known as "protoculture," and the planet's hope for survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.

Frank Agrama of rights-holder Harmony Gold will exec produce as will Jason Netter.

Crevello and Maguire brought the project to Warners in September.

Matt Reilly and Matt Milam overseeing for Warners.

"Robotech" extends Kasdan's return to the fantasy genre that began last year when he was tapped to pen the "Clash of the Titans" remake for Warners and Thunder Road. Kasdan wrote the screenplays for "Return of the Jedi," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" before penning such works as "The Big Chill" and "Grand Canyon."

He is repped by CAA.

Live Action Film Print

According to the Hollywood Reporter, on September 7th, 2007 stated that Warner Brothers Pictures picked up the film rights to Robotech and would produce the film for an unknown-release date. Tobey Maguire is producing the film through Maguire Entertainment and possibly starring as the lead-role.

"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

Drew Crevello also is producing through his Supercool Hollywood BigTime Prods. Craig Zahler ("The Brigands of Rattleborge") has been tapped to write the screenplay.

What does this mean? Get ready long time Robotech fans, because it seems that our long awaited support of this great epic will finally pay off!
