Live Action Film?

Its once again time for Comic Con International 2010 and like every year on Day 1 of the convention, the Robotech Industry Panel is scheduled to possibly answer some of the fandom's burning questions. If you're like most Robotech fans and want to know the status of the Robotech Live Action Film we'll save you the suspense. Much like last year, there is nothing to note that has not been covered before and know about by the avidly well-informed Robotech fan. They're still shopping for a director. As usual HG is tight with info and "cannot confirm or deny anything at this time."

Fine you say, "we expected that." So how about the next Robotech animated feature? Sorry, that's still in the back burner as it will not see the day of light until the Live Action Film is completed first. At least they didn't tell us that the LAM was canceled. Sometimes no news is good news.

With that said, it looks like Harmony Gold will finally do something right as they re-confirm that they are working on a short animated project that should be completed by next year around this time. It looks like the animated movie for 2010 rumors circulating the forums had some truth behind them. Its a step in the right direction since we won't see anything major for a while.

Svea Macek

As a treat to the fans attending a very special guest made an appearance, Svea Macek, wife to the late Carl Macek. Fans shared in a moment of silence for our fallen hero Carl, whose untimely death came as a shock to everyone. There will be a documentary about Carl to be released at an undetermined time with footage that RobotechX's own MEMO1DOMINION took of Carl Macek from different events.

25th anniversary music CD

Later this year there will be a 25th anniversary Robotech soundtrack released. One of the many works that Carl Macek was up to. It will be a 3-disc set with previously unreleased music.

More Comics!

For those of you who like comics or wish they had all of the Macross side stories in one package you will be able to have it by the end of the year maybe just in time for Christmas. A trade paper back called ROBOTECH: Love & War will collect all of the un-reprinted Macross Saga comics in one convenient volume.

Fans lining up for questions

Fans for the Q&A session made quite a long line, each getting to pick from a group of items that the panelists brought in.

The Panelists Svea Macek, Steve Yun and Tommy Yune

This time around it wasn't as bad as last year. There we no ground breaking announcements but at least this time it looks like HG has a plan for its fans, not to leave them hanging like previous years having to get by with scraps of fan fiction that were the only means to satisfy the Robotech cravings. For that we thank you fans!

MEMO posts with Carl Macek's daughter

At the end of the panel MEMO1DOMINION posed with Carl Macek's daughter as she was sporting the Lisa Hayes uniform.

A quick recap of what the fans can expect:

  • Documentary about Carl Macek and his work on Robotech
  • Animated Movie scheduled for 2011
  • New 25th Anniversary CD with previously unreleased music
  • Robotech Comics - ROBOTECH: Love & War collecting all unreprinted Macross comics

Not too bad considering that last year was literally NOTHING new.

Meanwhile at the RobotechX Fan Booth. . .

RTX Booth

A couple of fans showing off 25 years of Robotech!

RTX Booth

If you happen to attend the con, don't be shy and stop by the RTX Fan Booth located in Mezzanine MZ09. That's all we have for now, tomorrow we'll make sure to snap tons of images from the floor, events of Comic Con Internation 2010 and put them up on the gallery. So keep checking the site for updates.
