Genesis Ends . . . . Artemis Begins! Print

UEG Productions - Artemis

The creators of Robotech: GENESIS fan film UEG Productions, receive a cease and desist order from Harmony Gold. This spells the end of the planned web series but brings life to a new project: ARTEMIS.

UEG Productions Statement:

Sadly UEG productions has to inform the public that we are no longer able to continue producing the Genesis web series as planned.

The group received a Cease and Desist order from Harmony Gold USA (the rights holder to Robotech and all related materials), in-spite the well known non-commercial nature of Genesis. The situation at hand does not leave us with another alternative then to remove all Robotech and Macross related materials or derivations from the website. The genesis trailers and all related imagery, containing the materials in question will no longer be available.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the creation of Genesis project for the past 6 years. All the fans that supported us. And we are sorry we are not able to release it in this form.

We were already planning ahead to create our very own animation. So we are proud to announce the birth of the Artemis project. An complete original science fiction / Mecha animated feature film. Which will be unlike any other sci-fi, with its unique storyline and characters. More information on this new project will be available soon.

Thank you for your understanding.   UEG MANAGEMENT 2010

The reason HG waited until now to pull the plug via legal means on the GENESIS project is not really important. But anyone who has been paying attention throughout the years on how Harmony Gold operates will realize that fan projects that challenge derivative elements of Robotech will inevitably end up with a cease and desist order.

So what now? Apparently UEG Productions is working an entirely new project titled ARTEMIS. Stay tuned for updates.

Title: Not Surprised
HG is so devoid of any real creativity, anything with any promise from the fans who they "allegedly love" gets a C&D!

No surprised from this reader...

Title: Also not surprised
I feel bad for the creators of Robotech Genesis. If I were them I'd fight HG because the project was non-commercial in nature and I'd like HG to prove in court how such fan fiction hurts HG. As such, the only entity that stood to benefit from Genesis was HG itself.

Instead of sending a cease and desist order HG should have offered to buy the project out and employ its creators!

I continue to be amazed on the mismanagement of the Robotech brand by HG. Fan created projects like Genesis will only continue to occur because HG has lost its focus with regards to Robotech and has yet to prove that they can successfully market and distribute anything that is Robotech.

For example, how much new material has HG produced in regards to Robotech since the show ended after its initial release? Aside from The Shadow Chronicles, comics, and the few video games, what else has been produced? Nothing, no new TV shows, no new movie, nothing.

Robotech is a great brand and creative fans who want to create their own fan fiction in the form of books or computer generated movies should be free to do so without interference from HG.

Title: Im looking forward to Artemis
I think an original movie sounds like a much better idea than what they were planning. I would rather see something with a full plot than just remakes of scenes from Robotech. Plus, from what I saw of the Genesis teasers, these people are good. They deserve to make a profit. They can do that with Artemis. Its a bummer that they wasted all that time and effort on Genesis though. I would be pretty upset if I put all that work into something and then was told that I had to pretty much throw it all away.

Title: I disagree
I think it would have been much better for Genesis to be allowed to continue instead. These people were on the right track to creating a continuation of Robotech that HG refuses to provide. The fans want more Robotech and HG has mismanaged Robotech.

Since the fans are the only ones capable and willing to do anything with the Robotech storyline, then fan fiction such as Genesis should not be hindered by HG.

What the Genesis creators need to do is send that cease and desist letter back to HG and finish Genesis.

Fan fiction that is created on any form of media in which the creators are not receiving a profit, is not harming HG. Therefore the cease and desist order was just a mindless threat carried out by a company that is more focused on disappointing and harassing Robotech fans then on enhancing the Robotech brand.

Title: Are you kidding me?
I had been looking forward to this since it was first announced!

Once more HG kicks it's "fans" in the balls.

Go to hell HG!

Title: Thanks for the support!
We worked during 6 years, thousand and thousands of work... but now at least we still have the experience and now we are working in a new exciting project!

Title: You're welcome
Alois Fisher and everyone at UEG:

I support whatever new projects that you work on! It will be great to see how Artemis turns out. While I as a fan know how disappointed I am in the unethical actions of HG, I am pleased to know that Robotech fans like you have the ability to create new and innovative projects on your own. Best wishes to you and everyone at UEG!!!! I look forward to Artemissmilies/smiley.gif
