Truthfully, the size was what was convenient to tell the story. Sometimes Zentraedi were the same size as Veritechs, sometimes they were smaller. For example, Max dons a Zentraedi uniform in one episode and a Zentraedi is supposed to be able to squeeze into a battlepod - so you could assume that a pilot and a Veritech are the same size. Yet in some episodes, a Veritech would obviously not fit into the Battlepod it is fighting and so a pilot would be much smaller than a Veritech. You can also look at what the creators originally intended as your judge (see below) or just go with what looks right to you
