A little over six months ago, I started working on a small project that would adapt the Sentinels books and comics into a series of radioplays. For various reasons, I halted production, but I have since resumed, and I'm back on track.

I'm now happy to announce that auditions are once again open! I'm looking for:

Rick Hunter
Exedore
T.R. Edwards
Leonard
and Bowie Grant

I'm quite familiar with Forward Momentum and their works-- their works are indeed very professional! Darker Projects, not as much, so it looks like I've got some listening to do.

Would an audio drama adapted from Sentinels need a fan waiver on record with HG like with fan animations and Live Action fan projects?

That's the thing, I have no clue. I tried contacting Harmony Gold for permission and to possibly give their blessing, but I never got a response.

The unwritten rule by most intellectual property owners is that as long as you don't commercialize the project and also issue a disclaimer that the content within is copyrighted and trademark by the IP holders then you should be okay.

That means making no money whatsoever on your fan work as well as you cannot have any credit to the contents associated within the fan work.

But what about Copyright?

As we said, we’re a group of fans. We never accept money for our work, it’s done as a labor of love. The stories we work with are, when you boil it down, fanfiction. We don’t own Star Wars for instance, but we do Star Wars audio drama. We have no affiliation whatsoever with the companies whose intellectual property we use nor do we claim to. The simple fact is that if your work is COMPLETELY original (no borrowed IPs, music or sfx) then you have full rights to it. But if a single thing isn’t your own work, then it’s a fan-production and it’s better not to claim any rights at all. Put in the best light, what we do is the gray side of legal. We never claim credit for work that is not ours, nor do we want to step on anyone’s toes. If a copyright holder feels we’ve stepped over the line, we will gladly honor their wishes. What we do here is for fun, and love of a dying art form.

Follow this guideline and you should be okay to go!
