Why do you call it a dog house?

It's a british term.

The term "In the doghouse" is an idiom that means you're in trouble with the wife because the husband did something to upset her. For example a husband who is figuratively sent to the doghouse is similar to that of a dog which is removed from the owners home and sent to his dog house.

Mine tends to be the basement, where I built the rec room and a sports bar for this specific purpose when it came to finishing my basement before the kids start coming.

I'll put some pictures up sometime as the basement indeed looks kick ass. One friend of mine said it's the ideal bachelor pad to crash.
