73-year-old Noboru Ishiguro passed away yesterday, March 21.
He "directed" the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross TV series and "co-directed" the Macross movie, Do You Remember Love? (I put those in quotes because, according to Ishiguro himself, his role was primarily to step aside and let the young staff do their thing, all the while assuring the businessmen that everything was under control, even when it wasn't.)
He was also an animation director on the original Space Battleship Yamato, and the director of both Megazone 23 and the truly epic Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
A true pioneer, and a visionary creator, he will be greatly missed.
