Of Novels and Movies.... was created by Last_Valk_Standing

Ok I am useing the fact that this is a hot topic issue for Robotech but I'm posting it here in General Forum because I want this open to any and all stories that match this topic.

It is an argument as old as film it'self. And the answers vary as much as the chicken or the egg dilema.

Anyone who has even heard about the Robotech Novels knows they are different from the show. But like i enjoy pointing out so do most novel-to-show adaptations.

My biggest nagg is Jurrasic Park. I LOVED the movies, then i read the books. WOW big difference. I couldn't believe the creative licenses they took with the movie and i think it would have been cooler if it had been done closer to the books. IMO

So In your opinions what other big Blockbuster films adapted from novels were botched? Not that i think RT novels are but you know what i mean. And this can go the other way too, what movies were done better then their printed cousins?:silly:

I'm gonna Add Starship Troopers now that i have finnished that book. The novel was sooo much better then the movie although i loved the fist film. Almost a differents story entirely.

Novels will always be better IMHO, because its well a novel and the content will almost always have to be compromised to fit into a 120min film.

Oh and BTW you could have posted this in the X Fandom forum, remember this is not like the official Robotech website that has strict restrictions, we're a bit more free here.

In most cases the books are better, because theres more to the story than in the movie. example would be Pet Sematary, I read the book and found it was far more scary and in depth than the film. They cut out so much that could of made the movie much better, and thats what kind of disappoints me. I found it also kinda cool that Stephen King didnt publish the book for a long time because he had scared himself by writing it.

I've always thought that the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was better than the book it was based on. I just thought it had more plot and was more interesting.

LOL @ HappyPenguins : Mr King is kinda like a real world mad scientist. Crates his monsters and says "What have i done?" Love him and his work.

yeah he does have quite the imagination when it comes to horror and suspense. Which is why he is one of my favorite top authors, next to Ann Rice of course =D

speaking of which, Interview with a vampire stayed pretty true to the novel.

Speaking of Novels and moies has anyone ever read the book "The War That Never Was"? Basically a team went and took the actual war plans from both NATO and Warsaw Pact and simulated it with an advanced PC. The concept was really cool and to see how each nation planned to act if a war started. This book actually takes you through this war and presents it like a history book. It is very well written and takes place in the early 90's. I was a little upset when they sank my old Fast Resupply ship USNS Camdon but what are you gonna do? lol.

It occured to me that a mini series on History Channel based off this book would be really interesting. I know they do things like that every now and then. I was thinking of getting Fraps and pulling out my combat games and seeing how much of it i could program in and record. If i could only find my Tank Commander game....

Anyone else know of a book that hasn't had a film adaptation but you would like to see one?
