Found this on twitter, Sylvain white was approached to direct.

Thanks to Mechanimorph for finding this, here's the article in question;

Awhile back, IESB had exclusively heard director Sylvain White was approached to direct the live-action film version of Robotech. If you'll remember, that's set up at Warner Brothers with former web-slinger Tobey Maguire producing (and possibly starring). So why didn't we run with that news-item immediately? Simple, we opted to wait for the right moment to strike...

Cut to earlier today, White was out and about at WonderCon to promote his latest The Losers along with the cast.

IESB point-blank asked White of the rumors for his directorial participation. He told our very own Gig Patta that he loves the series and yes, had been approached to helm Robotech.

He even went as far to say he's read a draft. Said script is an adaptation of The Macross Saga. That particular series centered on a war against the Zentraedi, a race of militaristic giant aliens.

He admitted he is interested, but was quick to point out the project hasn't been greenlit yet.

IESB will keep you informed on any updates.

Seems like the script is complete and they're looking for a director. I'm estimating it won't be too long until the film gets green lit.

JUST HOPING THERE ARE OTHER POTENTIAL DIRECTORS OUT THERE. DONT KNOW HOW THIS GUY WILL TURN OUT. SO LETS WAIT AND SEE.

ONE THING FOR SURE, RLAM IS MOVING. AND TO ME THE SCRIPT CAN BE DONE. AND TH EDIRECTOR WILL DO A LOT OF CHANGES AS WELL.

I saw a trailer for The Losers...Not bad, looks more like a edgier A-Team type movie...If that goes well, then maybe RLAM has a chance...I also saw a lot of slowmo, so I will be more critical than usual when I watch that movie.

I haven't seen any of his stuff, I'll check it out and see what he's got. Perhapse they are trying to get a relatively young (cheap) director that would stay on for all three or more films.

It still seems to me that giving a potentially multi-million dollar tentpole franchise to someone who has directed only two theatrical films (one of which was very poorly reviewed and not successful, one of which hasn't been released yet) is a risky move.

Oh well. He hasn't said yes yet, and the movie hasn't been greenlit yet. A lot could change in next couple of years.
